About Franklin
Franklin Massachusetts is a suburban industrial community nestled between the Charles and Blackstone Rivers and is 22 miles southwest of Boston. Settlement of Franklin came late in 1676 and its early years had settlers involved in small farming and grazing. The town's abundant water power made for early industrial development. Soon there were cotton mills and boot and shoe manufacturers established in Franklin but the dominant industry from 1799 on was straw bonnet manufacturing.

In 1778 Franklin renamed itself to honor Benjamin Franklin and although over 30 communities in the colonies did that, Franklin Massachusetts was the first to do so. In return Ambassador Franklin showed his appreciation by sending the town a library of 116 volumes thereby making Franklin the first town in history with a public library!

Franklin is a center of a wide spectrum of architectural styles that have been proudly preserved in the town. Visitors will have the pleasure of seeing Greek Revival and Italianate buildings as well as High Victorian Gothic and Second Empire and Queen Ann styles.

Nick's Fundraiser
On July 9th we will be having a fundraiser in loving memory of Nicholas Bertozzi who we lost to suicide 4 years ago. All money raised will be donated to the American Foundation of Suicide Prevention. AFSP raises awareness for suicide and funds scientific research to help find a way to prevent suicide. Each year 42,773 people lose their battle to suicide. Our goal is to raise money to send to their organization with hopes to help anyone who maybe dealing with the thoughts of suicide or to help those who have personally been affected by suicide. We will be renting out the downstairs in Coles where there will be food served as well as a full bar. We will also be having corn hole tournaments as well as a bocce tournament. Each ticket per person will be $10 for the tournaments... It is reccomened to get a partner before hand but if you can not we can set it up the day of. In addition to corn hole and horse shoe we will have some type of music (live or dj) and we will also be doing a raffle with tons of prizes.

ABOUT THE FRANKLIN FOOD PANTRY The Franklin Food Pantry offers supplemental food assistance and household necessities once a month to eligible households. Bread and fresh produce is available daily for clients. Typical clients include working families trying to make ends meet, people experiencing a temporary job loss, individuals whose SNAP (food stamps) benefits are reduced, and seniors. A growing number of seniors are seeking help from the Pantry since most are on a fixed income and are impacted by such things as medication costs and higher fuel expenses. As a private, nonprofit organization, we depend entirely on donations from community members, corporations, foundations and other strategic partners. We receive NO funding from the town or state. There is no charge to clients for Pantry items or services. Programs include a Mobile Pantry which delivers food monthly to select neighborhoods where people have difficulty getting to the downtown location; Cooking Matters classes that teach families how to shop smarter and cook delicious, affordable meals; and a Healthy Futures Market that offers fresh produce from June to October. The high cost of fresh fruits and vegetables can be a barrier to wholesome nutrition for many families. Emergency food bags and seasonal items, such as holiday meal packages, are also provided. Learn how to get help. Because we are a client-choice pantry, visitors are empowered to select only what they need to meet their own personal dietary needs. Many pantries provide fixed boxes of food where clients do not have an opportunity to choose their items. Only residents of Franklin can officially register with the Pantry to receive ongoing support. However, emergency packages of food are provided to those in need who come to the Pantry for hunger relief. As a member agency of The Greater Boston Food Bank (GBFB), the Franklin Food Pantry is part of the GBFB objective of providing at least one meal a day to those in need.
